GLASS LAMPSHADE

The object is a glass lampshade, that have been broken into several pieces. One of the loose pieces remained but the rest of them were lost.
The aim of the treatment was that after conservation the object could be used again. Therefore the missing piece of glass had to be replaced. Because of the materials awailable at the time, the fill could not be colour matched exactly to the glass. Therefore it was decided that the fill should be reversible. This way the object could still ge on display immediately.
A cast of the missing piece was made and a replacement piece cast in epoxy. The replacement piece was attached with Paraloid B-72 which should remain easily reversible for a long period of time.
The treatment was finished by painting on the decoration with epoxy mixed with a black pigment.
