PLASTER RELIEFS

The four plaster reliefs were conserved as part of a conservation internship at the Helsinki City Museum. The one pictured above was going to be placed on display and it was decided that the entire set should be conserved at the same time so that they could all be placed on display if need be.
The reliefs are plaster sketches for a monument in Helsinki, made in 1948 by an artist Viktor Jansson.
The reliefs were cleaned and the losses filled with plaster with a couple of drops of PVA mixed in. The surface of the fills was then sealed with 10% Shellac in IMS and retouched with gouache paints.
